Service Bulletin B06-01 Cylinder Recall - Affected Range Expanded
Superior Air Parts is expanding the number of cylinder assemblies that are recalled by Service Bulleting B06-01 from approximately 324 to 1354.
The affected cylinders were manufactured between April and November 2005. The cylinder part numbers affected, and therefore the engines they are installed upon, has also expanded. Revision E of the Service bulletin now includes cylinders for Continental 470, 520 and 550 engines and Lycoming 320, 360 and 540 engines as well as Superior engines of the same displacements. Click this link (link) to go to the Service bulletin or on the Home page click Technical Support – Service Bulletins – B06-01 - pdf.
Superior is contacting our distributors who purchased affected cylinder assemblies and the distributors will be contacting their customers. To immediately determine if your cylinders are affected go to superiorairparts.com/sb0601 and enter your cylinder serial numbers and contact information. You will be advised whether or not your serial numbers are included in the recall and if they are, you will be directed to a warranty claim form.
The recall is due to a manufacturing lot of cylinder barrels that were not properly hardened to specification. The soft cylinder barrels may result in fatigue cracking of the cylinder head. The propagation of this crack may lead to head / barrel separation and loss of power in flight. Compliance with the Service Bulletin is required by 150 hours time in service which is a change from previous Service Bulletin requirements of 200 hours time in service.
